Augustine Odili

Professor Augustine Odili is a Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine and Consultant Cardiologist with over 20 years of experience in academia and clinical practice, half of which has been at the professorial level. He combines distinguished scholarship with extensive leadership experience in university administration and global cardiovascular health. Within the university system, he has held several strategic leadership positions, including Director of Research and Innovation, and Chair of the Committee on Plagiarism Detection, where he strengthened research governance, academic integrity, and innovation frameworks. Professor Odili serves the International Society of Hypertension as Deputy Chair of its Research and Education Committee, contributing to global initiatives aimed at advancing hypertension research and capacity building. He is a Visiting Bernard Lown Scholar in Cardiovascular Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Boston, USA, and a Faculty Member of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.

He is an Executive Editor of the Journal of Hypertension and serves on the editorial boards of several high-impact local and international journals, reflecting his standing in the global cardiovascular research community. His research focuses primarily on hypertension epidemiology and the development of context-appropriate strategies for hypertension prevention and control in low-resource settings. He has led several landmark large-scale studies, including: REMAH (REmoving the MAsk on Hypertension) NIPREGH (Nigerian Population Research on Environment, Gene and Health) NSS (Nigerian Salt Survey) COMAAND ( Community Action Against Non Communicable Diseases) Through his scholarship, leadership, and global collaborations, Professor Odili continues to advance evidence-based solutions to improve cardiovascular health outcomes in Africa and beyond.
